ABSTRACT

The sera of 72 women with a history of abortion [sporadic or habitual abortion] or perinatal complications were examined for toxoplasma antibodies using indirect immunofluorescent antibody test [IFAT]. It was found that 27.8% of them were positive for toxoplasmosis with geometric mean titer of 1/64. Also, sera of 34 women with normal obstetric history as a control group were examined. 11.8% of them were positive for toxoplasmosis with geometric mean titer 1/16. The difference between the control group and complicated group was found to be statistically significant. The histopathological picture of placenta of positive cases showed characteristics of toxoplasmic placentosis with detection of the organism in fixed paraffin sections using HX and E, PAS or Giemsa stains

ABSTRACT

Anti Toxoplasma antibodies were sought in 34 patients with uveitis and 20 healthy individuals by IHAT and IFAT .The total sero-positivity rate was 26.5%. The prevalence was significantly higher among patients with posterior [42.9%] than with anterior uveitis [7.1%] and control [10%] indicating significant role of Toxoplasma as an aetiologic agent of posterior uveitis. 14. 4% of patients with seropositive uveitis were considered to be due to primarily acquired Toxoplasma infection as evidenced by their significant higher IFAT mean titre [576.7 +/- 322.1] than IHAT [48 +/- 18.5]. The reported toxoplasmic anterior uveitis case is most probably secondary to posterior involvement

ABSTRACT

The effect of gamma irradiation [137[C] aesium] as regards the effect on rat lung was studied. The results obtained indicate that association of toxoplasmosis and irradiation aggravate the pathological changes recorded in the lung especially with high doses of irradiation

ABSTRACT

Praziquantel treatment of mice two weeks after infection with Schistosoma mansoni did not interfere with maturation of worms, but diminished the pathological effect on the liver. Addition of zinc to the treatment did not change the picture but potentiated the immune response in the form of secondary lymphoid follicles in the spleen. Treatment after five weeks resulted in marked reduction in the number and size of granulomata. Addition of zinc protected the liver cells and potentiated the immune response

ABSTRACT

Hundred rodents of different species were captured from different zones of Sharkiya Governorate. Heterophyes heterophyes, Hymenolepis nana, H. diminuta, Rallietina spp. and Inermicapsifer madagascriensis were recovered from the small intesting of the rodents. Cysticercus fasciolaris was recovered from liver. Syphacia spp., Trichocephalus muris, Strongyloides ratti, Nippostrongylus brasiliensis, Protospirura and Moniliformis spp. were also recovered

ABSTRACT

Hundred rodents of different species were captured from different zones of Sharkiya Governorate and examined for endoparasitic protozol infections. Trypanosoma spp. were detected in blood, spleen and liver smears, other parasites, Giardia muris, Trichomonas muris, Entamoeba muris, E. histolytica and Eimeria spp. were also recovered

ABSTRACT

The relationship between bilharziasis and hypogonadism was determined via estimation of serum testosterone level in male patients with different stages of bilharziasis. By radio immunoassay the testosterone level was found to be lower in patients with complicated bilharziasis than that in non-complicated group. Also, the serum testosterone level in complicated bilharzial group with gynaecomastia was found to be significantly lower than that of those without gynaecomastia
